Anyone Familiar with PORTFOLIO RECOVERY & AFFILIATES??

These guys are saying that I owe money and it has hit my credit. I have not had a thing in my name in about 2 years. My credit was clean. They gave me no phone # on my experian account. Any advice? I cant even buy a house now. They are out of Norfolk, VA.

    File a consumer dispute with experian, they will investigate on your behalf…say “not mine”…it might not be yours, it might be false, it might be someone elses…

    Dispute it with the credit bureau. Hopefully that will take care of it.

    However, if that doesn’t get it removed, sent the collector a certified, return receipt letter requesting validation including any contract or other document proving this is your debt. Give them 30 days.

    If they don’t respond, dispute the item with the credit bureau again. Enclose a copy of your validation request and indicate the creditor failed to respond. That should get it removed.

    If they do respond, you should have enough proof to get if removed if it isn’t yours. Chances are, they won’t respond. This company specializes in antique debt and doesn’t exactly follow the rules. Definitely do not phone them.

    They are one of the biggest junk debt collection agencies around. I have recently beat them at their own game. They are known to re date old debts then try to collect. This is illegal. I requested a verification of debt and they sent me bogus information. I went through old credit card files and found the account in mention was beyond the 7ry and 180day reporting time period.Running of Reporting Period – Section 605 [15 U.S.C. ยง 1681c

    i am going to compliment my two post above me. that this is a dishonest company. go see a consumer rights attorney about this file, most likely this will be free of charge. something illegal is coming to mind..
