daportfolio is easy to use, the only downside being you have the deviantart branding in the site name.
But it is professional looking and requires no setup other than uploading the pictures.

    Hello,

I use carbonmade.com. You can have 3 projects so I have had a portrait, miscellaneous and urban folder. But it is limited to how many pictures you have in each. But there’s plenty for a portfolio.

You can have a look at mine. http://www.secondcity.carbonmade.com

If you pay later on you can expand and add more pictures but to start off I think it’s ideal.

    Hope this helps.

http://jalbum.net/ is also another one. i use them as well – in addition to my own site.

you might also want to try a photo blog and close the comments. example below, but your link would be i.e. photographer.wordpress.com

Freewebs is ok, but I find it easier to use http://www.redbubble.com/ where you also have a private ‘Bubblesite’ where you choose what you want in the gallery.
And it’s all FREE, so you got nothing to lose.

Take a look at my friends site.

    Hope this helps.

    carbonmade is my choice.
it has a clean simple innovated layout.
and does not plaster its logo and brand over your work such as deviantart.

it allows you to display multiple projects of yours and limits the number of files you upload so you will remember to only show your best work.

its free and the best option in my opinion.
