Anyone working at LEGG MASON/ALLIANCE BERNSTEIN/BRIDGEWAY ADVISORS?

09 Jun

I am trying to work for one of these companies in the investment/portfolio management area. I am recently out of school but have a lot of experience in the Stock Market and Computer Area. I have a Business Management and Finance degree. Does anyone know anyone in these companies that can help me?

Thanks,

Helping My Future Sister In Law Plan Her Wedding?

09 Jun

She is one of the nicest, kindest people you would ever meet, however her taste is questionable. IAnd she is extremly cheap. I have just started event planning and offered my services to someone else for free as long as I could take photos for my portfolio. She asked me to help her plan hers, and I agreed. I know, I know it is a questionable decision. I need some ideas that will help me make this wedding worth putting my name on, that doesn’t break her budget and that will work well in a white rented tent. For example, a good place to buy budget linens, alternative ideas to flowers for centerpieces (no candles), creative ways to use lighting.

Thanks!

Do I need an Investment manager/adviser?

09 Jun

I just checked my investments with my 401K and UGH—- I saw a lot of red. I know the general advice is to wait this out… and I don’t expect to get specific advice here because people get paid for such advice (and I’d be hesitant to act on advice from a stranger anyhow)… however, looking at my portfolio would you say I need professional advice or would you say my mix is okay for someone 46 years old and eager to retire asap? Also, what do you know about Morningstar?

Is it possible to compose a portfolio whose daily price process is a sub-martingale?

09 Jun

I believe that portfolios which are linear combinations of traded assets have to inherit the properties of the underlying assets. Suppose in the market we have access to sufficiently many assets, can one find a perfectly diversified sub-collection and compose the portfolio using appropriate weights, such that the daily price process of the portfolio is sub-martingale? What further assumptions are needed to allow this possibility, if not?

Portfolios in Yahoo Finance have dissappeared?

08 Jun

I’ve been using Yahoo finance for tracking my stocks for years. I am still getting Yahoo alert E-mails on stocks I setup alerts for. I have not logged into my portfolio’s for a couple of months. Today, I logged in to check on my stocks after the big day on Wall Street, and they are gone!

Does Yahoo delete them if you don’t look at them after some period of time? Can Yahoo get these back? Or is something else wrong?

I always thought this was the safest place to keep track of my stock information. I used it instead of the Ameritrade site, which I thought was a good choice since they changed hands recently.

Given China and India’s growth, should I rethink what a diversified portfolio looks like?

08 Jun

I’m investing for a 30+ year horizon and I have a hypothesis that I should put the majority of my money in index funds tied to the stock markets of India (India Index Exchange Traded Note) and China (iShares FTSE/Xinhua China 25 Index) because those are economies of growth. I have heard that American companies such as GE, Gillete, P&G, Coca-Cola, etc. will benefit by serving these countries, but I still think that foreign firms based in those countries will better understand and take advantage of those markets. Furthermore, why should I assume that the American markets are any more safe for my money than China or India? From an education standpoint, the U.S. is not looking too competitive 20 or 30 years from now and that is not good for an economy that is dependent on innovation. For my equity investments I was thinking of this distribution:

Fidelity Asset Manager (85%) – 20%
India Index Exchange Traded Note (INP) – 40%
iShares FTSE/Xinhua China 25 Index (FXI) – 40%

On household management and finances?

08 Jun

Should I give in and hire domestic help for the other house, or should I look at renting it out, even if it causes damage and prevents me from selling for at least two years, as I want to offer a two-year lease? I might offer a chance to break it more easily or for a simple sublet? Should I take care of it myself?

I am quite happy with the cabin but I don’t want a burden on my financial portfolio, what with the other condo. There is a two percent property tax I could defer till retirement and possibly till death when the amount is taken off the estate. I could also lease it for two years, then sell and pay the money. However, I am worried about a drop in real estate prices as the base-selling price average is dropping? What should I do? I don’t use it that much, it is more of a storage space, but we hardly have room here. I suppose we could have a garage sale, but my wife is a packrat.

Do you have any advice about the management of several properties?

“based on what happened here, I don’t think there’s one thing wrong with health care in America”—Rush?

08 Jun

So, based on the services received by a multimillionaire…..there isn’t a problem. See how easy it is to ignore the needs of those who don’t have 10 digit financial portfolios? Mr Limbaugh, would it be different if you were one of the families who declares bankruptcy because of medical bills every 30 seconds?

Seeking professional help managing combined debt in new relationship?

08 Jun

I am seeking professional help getting overwhelming combined debt with fiance under control along with setting future financial goals. I am willing to pay for this service similar to a personal financial advisor. I do not want portfolio advice at this time which eliminates all financial advisor/analyst that I have seen to this point.

Does anybody know what specifically I should be looking for? Does anybody have someone to recommend in the Houston TX area?

Requirements for Ringling College of Art and Design Portfolio?

On the website, it says that you should NOT include anime in your portfolio. What exactly do they mean? I draw anime all the time, and I think it’s one of my strongest points in my art, so should I not include it? I want to major in illustration, so is it a good idea to include it?

Internet Download Manager (IDM) rapidshare issues?

07 Jun

For whatever reason, when I want to download a file from rapidshare, IDM doesn’t get prompted to download it, only Firefox does. I have the IDM add-on and Megaupload and other file-hosting sites work fine.

So, I enabled “automatically start downloading files from clipboard” and now I can download from Rapidshare via IDM. The big problem is that it will download any link I copy and want to download it. I have a website and it has a portfolio and I have to code my links in Wordpad and every image link prompts an IDM window so I can download.

Does anyone else know how to get IDM to download from Rapidshare without having to enable the automatic clipboard feature?
I asked a question and your answer has nothing to do with it. Go flatulate elsewhere.
It worked on my 2nd try Maling, thank you so much!

college art portfolio?

07 Jun

I want to go to Parsons the New School for Design in New York next year. If not that then I’d like to go to FIT. I am a senior in high school and will be creating my portfolio as soon as someone answers this question.

I need to know what’s required for their portfolios
I want to major in fashion design and management
and I hear that they like a variety of works
whether it’s photography, portraits, sketches even websites.

I’d like to know exactly what I should put in?
Should I take pictures of things I made as well?
or give them the real thing (i heard they don’t like it as much anymore?)

I can draw and paint mostly anything and I do have my own website. But where do I go from there; how big should the pictures be? and how many should be in my portfolio? Should I send it on a CD? ahh, so many questions

i don’t take art classes so i don’t have a teacher to ask. i’m a self taught artist so i just need some advice on
Any advice would be great.

Thank you!
