Why are some sleeping bags “left-zippered” and others “right-zippered”? What’s the difference?

I already have one rectangular sleeping bag. I want to buy another one, so that I can zip the two together and have a great big bag. I’ve read web sites that say that is only possible if you have one right-zippered bag and one left-zippered bag. What are they talking about? How can you tell the difference? If the zipper is on the right, and you flip the bag over it would be on the left, so I don’t get it.
Where can I find really durable and cute zippered tote bags?

I’ve recently become obsessed with tote bags. I have one, currently, but would like more. They will mostly be used for school, and I’d like them, for the most part to withstand precipitation. Which brought up the idea of zippered totes. Do you guys know where to find cute, and affordable ones?
