As with any freelance art field, portfolios outweigh education in many ways. So I was wondering how an artistic youngster such as myself who doesn’t know a lick of Photoshop or any vector program or truly anything outside of a pencil and paper, learn the graphic arts?

On the website, it says that you should NOT include anime in your portfolio. What exactly do they mean? I draw anime all the time, and I think it’s one of my strongest points in my art, so should I not include it? I want to major in illustration, so is it a good idea to include it?

I want to go to Parsons the New School for Design in New York next year. If not that then I’d like to go to FIT. I am a senior in high school and will be creating my portfolio as soon as someone answers this question.
I need to know what’s required for their portfolios
I want to major in fashion design and management
and I hear that they like a variety of works
whether it’s photography, portraits, sketches even websites.
I’d like to know exactly what I should put in?
Should I take pictures of things I made as well?
or give them the real thing (i heard they don’t like it as much anymore?)
I can draw and paint mostly anything and I do have my own website. But where do I go from there; how big should the pictures be? and how many should be in my portfolio? Should I send it on a CD? ahh, so many questions
i don’t take art classes so i don’t have a teacher to ask. i’m a self taught artist so i just need some advice on

Well I am going to be starting college soon, and I am going to be working on a visual arts degree and I will be working with photoshop, illustrator, and InDesign a lot. Does anyone know of any laptops that would be good for that? I would need a lot of memory, excellent graphics (of course) a large screen, and good battery life.
I’ve looked in a lot of stores, but I would like some personal opinions from people about this.

So, I’m sixteen, and I’ve recently become very career obsessed. I’m thinking about the Art Institute in Charleston, SC and going into either graphic design or fashion and retail management. But, what do I really need to get into a school like that? What kind of grades? Will I need a portfolio? I’m finding the future to be extremely over whelming.

So far so good? I really want to get into a good college but I’m looking at George Mason University and Old Dominion university for now.
I want to go to college with a Major in Chemistry and a Minor in Communications….
What goes in to a Graphic Design portfolio for college?

I’m applying to art schools and I’ve done some stuff with graphic design and I have no idea what to put in my portfolio. I’ve done things on illustrator, foundation drawings done from observation & still-life, things I did last year in my AP art class, black and white ink drawings done for “basic graphic design” class. I have no idea what to use. Anyone that’s applied as a Graphic Design major before know what they used in their portfolio? I’m thinking about RISD, Pratt, and Syracuse if that has any relevance.
